Around Columbus Day I learned an article about Encounter in class. From reading l see the story is not light-hearted. Told from a young Taino Indian boy's point of view, this story traces how the youth tries to warn his people against welcoming the strangers, who seem more interested in golden treasures than friendship. Then before reading, almost people learn about Christopher Columbus as the hero with the great adventure to find out the New World. However, the story is through a child' s eyes to observe the greedy strangers; through the child's dream to warn the Taino Indians even other people to think how about the native Indians' feeling: "So it was we lost our lands... We gave our souls to their gods. We took their speech into our mouths, forgetting our own. Our sons and daughters became their sons and daughters, ... no longer ours." And then, watching on the last picture: a old man sits by the sea, lonesomely and helpless but sticking to tell people about his dream and story, that will keep in my memory for length.
